Why the classification matters분류가 왜 중요한가
The first thing that decides your route into Korea is not the recipe or the packaging — it is which law your product falls under. Cat food, wet pouches, freeze-dried treats and dental snacks are all handled as feed under the Feed Control Act. Human-grade wording on the pack does not change that. 한국 진출 경로를 결정하는 첫 번째 요소는 배합이나 포장이 아니라 어떤 법의 적용을 받는가입니다. 건사료, 습식 파우치, 동결건조 간식, 덴탈 스낵은 모두 「사료관리법」상 사료로 취급됩니다. 포장에 사람이 먹을 수 있는 수준이라고 적혀 있어도 분류가 달라지지 않습니다.
The practical consequence is that a shipment cannot simply clear customs. Registration comes first, a declaration is filed per shipment, and where the recipe contains animal-derived material a quarantine check applies before anything is released. 실무적으로는, 물건이 그냥 통관되지 않는다는 뜻입니다. 등록이 선행되어야 하고, 선적 건별로 신고가 들어가며, 동물성 원료가 포함된 경우 출고 전에 검역 절차를 거칩니다.

Products containing animal-derived ingredients are checked against the scope of the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency. Origin country matters here as much as the ingredient itself.동물성 원료가 포함된 제품은 농림축산검역본부 검역 대상 여부를 확인합니다. 이 단계에서는 원료만큼이나 원산지 국가가 중요합니다.

Import declaration수입 신고
Filed for each shipment, with the documents that came with it. Declaration and lot numbers are kept on file so the same paperwork can be produced later if a channel or an authority asks.선적 건별로, 동봉된 서류와 함께 신고합니다. 신고번호와 로트번호를 보관해 두어 이후 채널이나 관계기관이 요구할 때 같은 서류를 제출할 수 있게 합니다.

Korean labelling한글 표시사항
Applied before the goods go out to any channel. Product name, ingredients, net weight, best-before date, importer, country of origin and the registration number where one applies.채널로 출고되기 전에 부착합니다. 제품명, 원료명, 중량, 유통기한, 수입원, 원산지, 해당하는 경우 등록번호가 들어갑니다.

What you cannot say on a Korean pack한국 포장에 쓸 수 없는 표현
Feed products may not be advertised as preventing, treating or curing disease. Claims that read as medical on an overseas pack routinely have to be reworded for Korea — this is one of the more common reasons a launch slips. 사료는 질병의 예방·치료·완화를 표방할 수 없습니다. 해외 포장에서 의약품처럼 읽히는 문구는 한국용으로 다시 쓰는 경우가 많고, 런칭이 늦어지는 흔한 이유 중 하나입니다.
- Wording implying treatment of a condition needs replacing, not translating.질병 치료를 암시하는 문구는 번역이 아니라 대체가 필요합니다.
- Unsupported superlatives — “the best”, “number one” — are not usable as they stand.근거 없는 최상급 — “최고”, “1위” — 은 그대로 쓸 수 없습니다.
